Lighting Design - Dainolite

When I was with Dainolite, I took on the responsibility of not only designing the light fixtures themselves but also the accompanying step-by-step instructions. By delving into sales data, trends and identifying top-performing designs, I ensured that every creation I crafted was not only aesthetically appealing but also poised to bring significant value to the company. Moreover, I placed a strong emphasis on creating consumer-friendly instructions, ensuring that assembling the product was a seamless and intuitive process for our valued customers.

In addition to this, I had the distinct privilege of showcasing these designs at our annual international conference, garnering acclaim and recognition from industry peers and stakeholders. Furthermore, my creations found a prominent place on our direct-to-consumer website, allowing a wider audience to appreciate and acquire these fixtures.

Projextions

My team and I conceptualized, designed, and brought to life Projextions - a marketable product with high potential for e-commerce. This encompassed comprehensive research, hands-on design work, and rigorous testing.

Projextions, a candle holder, stands out for its use of light manipulation to project striking imagery on walls. With customizable engraving options, it transforms into a personalized work of art. We started with three designs - the turtle, penguin, and whale. Following their success, we introduced the polar bear and iconic maple leaf options.

In just three months, Projextions generated over $2500 in revenue, underlining its market viability. In alignment with our commitment to conservation, 10% of our sales were donated to the WWF Ocean and Wildlife initiative, contributing to global efforts to protect ecosystems.

This project earned the prestigious Lee Renshaw Award for Entrepreneurship, recognizing its innovative spirit and potential impact in the realm of design and commerce.

LIV

LIV is an innovative system I designed to elevate the experience within semi-autonomous vehicles. At its core, LIV reimagines family travel, seamlessly integrating functionality and entertainment. This garnered recognition in the esteemed annual competition hosted by ABC Technologies, securing a commendable 3rd-place award.

Within LIV, you'll discover:

  • Flip Desk: An interactive feature that transforms the vehicle into a dynamic space. Families can engage in games, enjoy movies, and more. When not in use, it folds away, sliding beneath removable floor panels.

  • The Duo: A versatile pull-out table equipped with charging capabilities, designed to adapt to diverse family needs. It doubles as a convenient baby changing station, exemplifying LIV's multifaceted utility.

  • Stash Dash: Offering three primary storage units, each tailored to specific requirements. From an HVAC-cooled storage compartment to a secure locking unit and a shallow storage area, Stash Dash ensures everything finds its place.

  • Quick Vac: A central vacuum system seamlessly integrated into the vehicle. Simply dispose of waste in strategically positioned chutes beneath the seat and console. The system expertly transports the waste to the trunk, where it's hermetically sealed to mitigate odors.

MODI

Embarking on a project for Spin Master, we were tasked with a challenge: selecting a toy category and age group to design a groundbreaking product.

The concept that emerged was a remote-controlled toy, a testament to the boundless possibilities of play. Drawing inspiration from the Lego, Tyco, and Spin Master's own creations, this plug-and-play wonder offers an experience like no other. With detachable wings, wheels and more, it seamlessly transitions across land, water, and sky, ensuring that playtime knows no bounds.

This project not only showcases the potential of creative engineering and design but also exemplifies the power of play to transcend conventional limitations. It's a testament to the limitless imagination that toys can inspire, and a glimpse into a future where every terrain becomes a playground.

Sling

When Umbra sponsored a special project, we honed in on the kitchen category, specifically exploring the realm of serviceware and barware. We were determined to infuse excitement and personalization into the experience.

Existing options tended toward either bulkiness or a lackluster aesthetic, prompting a vision. Extensive material exploration ensued, spanning from silicone coats to cage-like carriers and a myriad of bottle alternatives.

This exploration gave birth to 'Sling.' This innovative concept harnesses a unique material, enabling users to secure it effortlessly around a bottle, ensuring safe and convenient transportation. Drawing from the ancient art of Tsutsumi, a technique employing knots for security, the model is elegantly simple. Crafted from a single Neoprene sheet, the design features strategic slits to snugly cradle the bottle, guaranteeing its safety even amidst jostles and unexpected drops. The fabric's versatility extends to customization, providing opportunities for promotions and special occasions.

This project encapsulates a commitment to redefining functionality and aesthetics, marrying form and function to deliver an unparalleled experience in the realm of serviceware and barware.

KOKA

As one of the industrial and graphic designers behind KOKA, a prototype outdoor lounge chair, I embarked on a design journey with a mission—to craft a chair tailored for those who relish the cottagecore lifestyle.

Inspired by the classic Muskoka Chair, KOKA seamlessly blends timeless design with modern comfort, featuring fabric options like 15oz Duck Canvas and Sunbrella for versatile pricing. The steel frame allows for convenient stacking and ensures stability in challenging weather conditions. KOKA’s fabric, tied with paracord, is both removable and machine washable. The chair's thoughtful design, with supportive rounds near the legs and head area, encourages relaxation, making it the perfect companion for laid-back moments at the cottage. Positive feedback has highlighted it’s comfort and aesthetic appeal, aligning seamlessly with its target audience's expectations. From the initial ideation to the final prototype, the KOKA project has been a testament to teamwork, patience, and a deep understanding of our audience's needs. I take pride in Koka's success, both visually and in providing hours of comfort to those who experience it.
